 Prof. Alexey Sokolov is one of the well-known Russian pianists nowadays. Alexey Sokolov was awarded important prizes at different national and international piano competitions for his performance. The 1st prize and a Grand Prix at Stresa Yamaha prize Piano Competition in Italy as well as the 1st prize on the Bach’s Piano Competition in Russia are among them. In 1999 he was delegated by St. Petersburg State Conservatory to China to take up teaching at the invitation of the Tianjin State Conservatory of Music. He is an official representative of St. Petersburg State Conservatory in China, a foreign expert of the Tianjin Conservatory as well as the youngest associate professor in Russia, now. Despite his busy schedule, Mr. Alexey Sokolov has been working constantly with many musicians and concert halls; he performed in England, Italy, Portugal, Austria, Czech, Yugoslavia, all over the Russia, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore. Ever since he came to China, he has held over 100 different concerts and offered master classes in a number of major cities. He also works in co-operation with many symphony orchestras, performing in such venues as City concert Hall in Newcastle (England), Grand Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg, Belgrade Philharmonic Hall, Concert Hall of Prague and many others. Besides his artistic and educating career Mr. Alexey Sokolov has published several works devoted to different aspects of piano performing (Among them “Interpretation Problems of Schubert’s Piano sonatas”, “About some aspects of musical form in Beethoven Piano sonatas”, An article devoted to different problems of piano accompaniment skills etc. Some of them are translated in Chinese and published).
Mr. Alexey Sokolov is well known at his Motherland and in Europe as a founder of the first in Russia “International Piano Competition for Young pianists “A step to Mastery” (Member of W.F.I.M.C.).
His numerous students won important prizes at many international piano competitions all over the World.
